BIO

Chris DeMarco began his career in music as a much sought-after musician and front man, having shared the stage and played with a virtual who’s who of  super-musicians of the ‘70’s and ‘80’s.  After deciding to leave behind the glare of the bright lights of Hollywood and the ever-pulsing New York music scene, DeMarco’s settled into the cadence of more laid back climes that finds him at his most serene self.  His latest release Lost and Found - his first on his self-distributed label Dreamco Music, finds him in fine form as he treats us to a volume of classic fare meant to please the true Rock aficionados among us.

Lost and Found is an aptly named album that weaves together DeMarco’s past and present musical contributions into one cohesive work, featuring the likes of Dick Wagner (Alice Cooper Band), Tommy Talton (Gregg Allman Band and Cowboy), Ken Mazur (Robert Palmer Band), Barry Richman and Paul Hurst on Guitars;  Billy Langley on Keyboards;  Rhys Clark (Billy Joel Band and Freddy Fender Band) playing drums; and Jim Fielder (Buffalo Springfield, Blood Sweat and Tears and Neil Sedaka) on Bass.  Billy Joel also appears on Sail Away which was recorded earlier, but still remains a timeless tune.

Currently residing in the Atlanta, Georgia area with his wife Charlotte, Chris DeMarco has proven his mettle as a legitimate artist time and time again.  From his glory days as a front man for the Island Records recording act Riff Raff, which he formed in 1977, to his contributions to the work of the legendary cadre of musicians he also calls friends, Chris DeMarco’s music and artistry has stood the test of time.  Still in his musical prime, and uncompromising in his commitment to making excellent music, he is without a doubt the stuff legends are made of.

The past and the present connect on this CD featuring 11 newly recorded songs with Dick Wagner (Alice Cooper Band), Tommy Talton (Gregg Allman Band and Cowboy), Ken Mazur (Robert Palmer Band), Barry Richman and Paul Hurst on Guitars.  Billy Langley on Keyboards.  Rhys Clark (Billy Joel Band and Freddy Fender Band) playing drums.  Jim Fielder (Buffalo Springfield, Blood Sweat and Tears and Neil Sedaka) on Bass.  JSax on Sax and Jan Gardner singing Background with me.

One of the songs on "LOST AND FOUND", entitled "SAIL AWAY", was recorded early in my career and is included on this CD because it was my good fortune to have three of the musicians who worked with me back then come to Georgia to record the new tracks for "LOST AND FOUND" "SAIL AWAY" was one of four songs recorded at Larrabee Recording Studio in Hollywood CA. and The Record Plant in Sausalito CA.  Co-producing with me was Ray Colcord who had just produced Aerosmith's first album.  The sound engineer was Jimmy Robinson who was one of the engineers on the Jimi Hendrix albums (You can hear Jimmy saying "That was the one" at the end of Sail Away.  The sessions included Billy Joel playing Piano, Dick Wagner and Michael Monarch (Steppenwolf) on Guitar, Jim Fielder on Bass and Rhys Clark on Drums for two songs and Klaus Voorman (The Beatles, John Lennon and George Harrison) on Bass and Buddy Miles (Jimi Hendrix) playing Drums on the others.

In the middle of recording "LOST AND FOUND" I took a break and Charlotte and I traveled to California to see my daughters, Tatyana and Deirdre.  We included in our trip a visit to San Francisco to see my old friend and former manager, Lee Housekeeper.  Lee and I had working together when I recorded "SAIL AWAY" .  Our first evening there Lee suggested we go to Jack's Grill for a steak and a few drinks. The three of us had dinner in the booth where Dashiell Hammett ate, drank and wrote "THE MALTESE FALCON".  I've been in love with Dashiell Hammett's novels for years and had written a piece of music which I'd given the working title of "LOVE AND MURDER".  That evening inspired me to finally write the lyric.  Thanks Dashiell, this song's for you.

THE SONG LYRICS...

OUT OF THE BLUE

Out of the Blue
I saw you in the crowd through faceless people all around
Feathers in your hair, swaying in the air
As you moved across the room
I'd seen you once before in a dream I thought I'd lost
Never to return to satisfy this burning in my heart

Out of the Blue
I heard your voice calling
Out of the Blue
I found myself falling

I wasn't looking for a love but a love was looking for me
When your blue eyes turned to meet mine
I saw my destiny
I couldn't look away, your gaze held me there
The spell was unbroken, no words were spoken
As you took my hand

Out of the Blue
I heard your voice calling
Out of the Blue
I found myself falling
Falling in love with You

I’M CALLING YOU

You don’t see me no matter what I do
You don’t know me or what I’ve been going through
You don’t hear my heart pounding out a beat
You don’t understand I’m a love lost refuge
And I know I just can’t go, I can’t walk away
‘Cause I believe you’re just like me
You want love but love remains a mystery

I’m calling you, but the words don’t come through
Turn and look my way, why can’t you see
I’m calling you, that’s all I can do
‘Till the day you finally see me

I reach out each day you appear
What’s your name, I’m wondering if I’ll ever hear
The sound of your voice calling out my name
I’ll keep trying girl ‘till I finally touch you
I can’t go on feeling the way I do
I’m so tired of being alone…like a complete unknown

I’m calling you, but my words don’t get through
Take a look around, then you’ll see
I’m calling you, that’s all I can do
‘Till the day you finally see me

Every night and day I tell myself I better wait
But that’s not what life is for…I need so much more
Can you hear me now?  Can’t you see me now?

I’m telling you I just won’t go, I’m not gonna’ run away
Cause I’m so tired of being alone, like a complete unknown

I’m calling you, but the words don’t get through
Take a look around, then you’ll hear
I’m calling you, that’s all I can do ‘till the day you finally see me
Why can’t you see me girl, I’m standing here in front of you
I’m not going away anytime soon…I need an answer
Baby it's you, you, you
Baby it's you

YOU CAN’T GO HOME AGAIN

I drove into town in my Chevrolet
Down the streets where we used to play
Every day after school
Over there underneath that tree
That’s where Judy first told me she loved me
And oh how she kissed me
Hometown memories still remain
Standing here I feel the same
But everything has changed

Don’t look back…you can’t go home again
You gotta know where you’re going
Like you know where you came from
Don’t look back…there’s nothing left to see
Don’t turn around…it’s only a memory

I’ve got a feeling in my bones
Like my past has left me here all alone, nobody home
I keep thinking that I’ll turn around
See my old friend Willy
Driving down the street to meet me
In his grandpa’s old red pickup
Hometown memories still remain
I look to the sky it looks the same
But everything has changed

Don’t look back…you can’t go home again
You gotta know where you’re going
Like you know where you’ve been
Don’t look back…there’s nothing left to see
Don’t turn around…it’s only a memory

Can’t go home, can’t go, can’t go
Can’t go home, can’t go, can’t go
Can’t  go home, can’t go home, can’t go home

Hometown memories still remain
Standing here I feel the same
But everything has changed

LOVE AND MURDER

The cold steel door slammed and locked behind her
The love of my life was about to do life…
It was raining when I raised my head from my desk
And opened my eyes
I don’t know how long I’d been out but I was thankful
For the few shots of bourbon left in the bottle
It was Sunday… I could tell because my secretary
Charlotte wasn’t there, or had I let her go on Friday?
Having no clients can do that for you
I was contemplating getting worried
When the scent of expensive perfume
Swept under the door in advance of the inevitable knock
I must have mumbled something
Because she opened the door and walked in
The mink wrapped around her neck
Looked comfortable and content
She looked around and frowned
As if she didn’t like what she saw
I offered her a chair anyway
And asked her what I could do for her
When she spoke I felt like I was becoming intoxicated again
I should have known better right then
And shown her the door
But I had sort of become accustomed to eating
So I listened to her story
She told me her husband had run off with another woman
I don’t normally take marital cases
But I decided to make an exception since, as I said,
I had cultivated a number of bad habits

Love and murder just don’t mix

There was something in her face
Maybe the little wrinkles around her eyes
When she asked me to take her case
Or the way her lips parted as she waited for my answer
I suggested we go to Jack’s Grill for a steak
And a few drinks, and not in that order
I needed information to find her husband
And I wanted to ask her what she was going to do
When I found him…I hoped I knew the answer
She acquiesced and I led her down to the street and Jack’s
Eyebrows raised when we walked in
No one there had ever seen such elegance on my arm
Me with her was a picture too good to be true
No one can escape destiny and the truth

Love and murder just don’t mix
Love and murder just don’t mix

I’m sure you’ve figured out by now
Things didn’t work out the way I’d hoped
Yeah, I found the husband and his girlfriend
In her apartment…
She was lying face down with a 38 in her hand
Right next to his corpse
All neatly packaged as a murder suicide
It looked perfectly obvious
But for the unmistakable scent of
Very expensive perfume…mingled with gunpowder
Her lawyer told her that with good behavior
She’d be out in 20 years and I promised to wait
But nothing we said could console her
I should have listened to Charlotte
When she told me not to trust her
But as usual, I wouldn’t listen

Love and murder just don’t mix

IT’S INEVITABLE

I'd often thought there'd be no tomorrow
And all my dreams would end up forgotten
It’s not true – the dawn will come
Even it it’s without you

I’ve lived for years on the age old proverb
Though I know time can’t be borrowed
You’ve got it – or you don’t
It’s not a negotiable matter

It’s inevitable – time waits for no one
As the sun rises, so it must set
It’s inevitable – this dance will end
So hold on tight when you find someone to love

The night we met was like many others
A billion stars shone and still we were lonely
Afraid of dreaming, afraid of losing
What we might never have

So we dance all night like there is no tomorrow
And spend the time we’ve been allotted
Every minute is a gift
It’s not melodramatic oh no

It’s inevitable – nothing lasts forever
But I don’t mind now that I know
It was inevitable that we would meet
And at the end of the dance
There would be…you and me

THE QUIET OF THE RAIN

I grabbed my hat but left my coat
I barely made it out the door
Frantic curses are echoing
I can’t bear to hear them anymore
It may be brave to stay and fight
But my courage has failed me
For now I’ll find solace
In the quite of the rain

It’s amazing how easily
I fool myself again
Illusions of how it might have been
Could never change the memory
Your voice beckons but I can’t return
To embrace our days gone by
I walk alone through the mist
And the quite of the rain

I ask for nothing more…turn the page
The moments pass away
And though I’ll think of you and shed a tear
I’m still drawn to…The quiet of the rain

LOST AND FOUND

There’s a hole in my heart
I can’t hide
Though I’ve tried to fill it
Everyone still sees through me
There’s a missing part
I can’t find
Though I may have lost it
I believe it’s been stolen

It doesn’t make sense
But I can’t ignore it
After all what would you do
With a similar story
Should I call an ambulance
Or wait and check the ads
For the Lost and Found?

There’s a hole in my heart
I can’t feel
Yesterday’s pleasures
Seem so unreal
There’s a missing part
I must find
It’s out there somewhere
I must be blind

It’s as though I’m wandering
Through streets without any names
Passing faces look awfully familiar
But they’re all in a hurry
Maybe someone who misses me
Will come and make the claim
And take me from the Lost and Found

I DON’T WANNA WAKE UP

I have seen you baby and now I realize
I can see you when I close my eyes and I
Lay my head down to sleep at night
I’m with you
I have dreamed you honey I know it’s true
But I don’t care I’m gonna keep on lovin’ you
You’re are all I need now I’m going back to sleep
And be with you

I don’t wanna wake up find myself alone
I don’t wanna wake up you’re the only love I know
Slumber comes over me and I swear it’s really you
I don’t wanna wake up find it isn’t true
I have dreamed you baby I can see you when I sleep
I know when I close my eyes
You’ll be right here by my side
I don’t wanna wake…I don’t wanna wake up

I will miss you baby I can’t deny
I’d rather stay right here and never see the light
Until then I won’t be satisfied till I’m with you
I know just how strange it may seem
For a man to be in love with a girl in a dream
But she’s waiting as the sun goes down
I’m headin’ home

I don’t wanna wake up find myself alone
I don’t wanna wake up you’re the only love I know
And if I’m dreamin’ baby don’t say boo
I don’t wanna wake up find myself without you
I have dreamed you baby I see you when I sleep
I know when I close my eyes
You’ll be right here by my side

I have dreamed you baby I see you when I sleep
I know when I close my eyes
You’ll be right here by my side
I don’t wanna wake up…I don’t wanna wake up
I can’t face the real world alone…no
I don’t wanna wake up…
I don’t wanna wake up, wake up, wake up,
No, no, no…don’t wake me up
I’d rather be in love with a dream
Than to be forever.....

WHEN IT’S GONE

You kissed and made up
All was forgiven
The morning sun washed away
The cruel words spoken
Memories of yesterday
Won’t be forgotten
They’re just waiting for a chance
To break your heart
You take for granted your love will conquer all

It’s here today…then it’s gone
There’s no replay… when it’s gone
No replay, only goodbye
When it’s gone

You said she was wrong
She says it was you
No one remembers
After all the fighting’s through
The tears have hardly dried
And still your point must be made
Someone has to take the blame
You win the battle but your love dies in the war

You went too far…now it’s gone
You can’t get it back…when it’s gone
Apologies won’t make it reappear
When it’s gone
I’m sorry, please forgive me
It won’t matter anymore
When it’s gone
Gone

UNKNOWN SOLDIER

Waves of heat rose in the shade
As a car stopped at a road blockade
A soldier came to check they’re papers
And the whole world exploded
I jumped from my jeep and started running
With the sound of the engine still gunning
Through the black smoke I could see his eyes
So calm and cool, then they closed
I dragged his body from the spreading flames
He grabbed my arm and I heard him say
Please don’t let me die…and the sun beat down

I feel like a drowning man
In the middle of the sand
I’m going down in this damned Holy Land
And here you are, but who are you
Just another…Unknown Soldier

The moments seemed to last forever
As time and place didn’t seem to matter
It could have been any war
A soldier was down
He asked me to take the letter
Written to his wife and his baby daughter
Then far away on the hot wind came
The wail of lonely sirens
I held his hand
And the sun beat down

I feel like a drowning man
In the middle of the sand
I'm going down in this damned Holy Land
And here you are, but who are you
Unknown Soldier

I found myself alone by the river
Wondering if he was going to live or die
They took him away that night
Leaving me to question Oh God Why?
With shattered breath he’d whispered
Don’t forget your promise
And through my tears I could see his eyes
So calm and cool and then they closed
They closed…

IT’S NEVER TOO LATE

A warm breeze blew that moonlit night
As we strolled along the shore
No teary eyes or sad goodbyes
To send me off to the war
Long days and lonely nights we’d endure
Love letters written to faded tear stained pictures

It all seems so long ago
The world tore us apart
But now that I see you the years melt away
It’s never too late

You went away to school that fall
And I rambled off to Viet Nam
Caught up in our new found worlds
We had to carry on
How could we know what was taking place
What could we do against the rising tide of fate

That was so very long ago
We nearly forgot
But standing here looking at you, I know
It’s never too late
The shifting sifting sands of Time
Changed the course of our lives
But what we had and put aside
Has never died
The tears we cried  long since dried we can’t erase
And the love that had slipped away
Has taken their place

Never say it baby never say
We got here too late
It’s just in time to start again ‘cuz darlin’
It’s never too late for love

SAIL AWAY

Sail away
Sail away
The time we were there seems so far away
It seems so far away
I’ve got to sail away

Sail away
Sail away
Morning sun brings back yesterday
It brings back yesterday
I’ve got to sail away
I’m gonna sail away…and here we go now

I gotta run…I gotta hide
I wanna be there…inside
I gotta run…I gotta sail away

Sail away…
